CHECKING FOR SIGNS OF ADRENAL DEPLETION

Adrenaline, Cortisol, DHEA, and norepinephrine are the body’s four major stress hormones. Cortisol is also involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates and the regulation of blood sugar. Reduced adrenal function may be indicated by: weakness, lethargy, dizziness, headaches, memory problems, food cravings, allergies, and blood sugar disorders. Adrenal glands are affected most often by cortisone. Adrenal failure can also be caused by poor nutritional habits (especially caffeine intake), alcohol and drug abuse (including nicotine), and excessive long term distress.

Adrenal Gland Function Self-Test

Normally systolic blood pressure is approximately 10 points higher when you are standing than when you are lying down. If your adrenal glands are not functioning properly, this might not be the case. TEST: Take and compare two separate blood pressure readings- one while lying down, the other while standing.

  1. Lay down and rest for five minutes.
  2. Take your blood pressure.
  3. Stand up and immediately take your blood pressure again.
  4. If your blood pressure is lower after you stand up, suspect reduced adrenal function. The degree to which the blood pressure drops upon standing is often proportionate to the degree of hypoadrenalism.

FEEDING/REBUILDING GLANDS

Vitamin B Complex, (100 mg of each major b vitamin daily) plus extra pantothenic acid, (100 mg 3 times daily),Vitamin C with bioflavonoids ( 4,000-10,000mg daily) Herbs: Yohimbe (1-2 capsules- should not take if high blood pressure) Astragalus, Licorice Root, Eleuthero Root, Black Cohosh Root,(not during pregnancy), Prickly Ash Bark, Sarsaparilla Root, and Bladderwrack
