Crucial Reasons You Should Get Sunlight Daily

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is stored in your body fat. It is a steroid hormone that has long been known for its important role in regulating body levels of calcium and phosphorus, and in mineralization of bone.

The sun contributes significantly to the daily production of vitamin D, and as little as 10-15 minutes of exposure is thought to be enough to prevent deficiencies. It is believed that about 30 minutes of daily exposure is needed for people with dark skin however.

Active Vitamin D helps calcium and phosphorus to be absorbed from the intestines into the blood stream to help keep bones strong and healthy. Vitamin D is also essential for heart functioning.
Calcium And Vitamin D

As noted above Vitamin D helps calcium and phosphorus to be absorbed from the intestines into the blood stream. Calcium is needed for muscle contraction, blood vessel contraction and expansion, secretion of hormones and enzymes, and message transmission through the nervous system. Because calcium is the nutrient that helps you build new bones, it is imperative that throughout your life, you get enough of it.

Deficiencies

Deficiencies of Vitamin D can lead to deficiencies of calcium thus leading to bone softening disease (i. e. osteoporosis), dementia, heart disease, diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, some cancers, autoimmune diseases, and infections.

Deficiencies, as seen above, appear to increase the risk of a number of diseases or negative health conditions. One example is rickets in which a deficiency of vitamin D causes softening of the bones and can present as aching muscles and joints.

Best Source Of Vitamin D

Sunlight is still the best way to obtain vitamin D — it is your body’s natural method of creating the substance. But in winter months, sometimes it is not possible to receive enough sunlight. When you get your ‘D’ from sunshine your body takes what it needs, and de-metabolizes any extra. The words of the wise man ring true, “Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun.” Ecclesiastes 11:7.
