All fruits and vegetables have unique beneficial nutritional compounds called flavanoids in them. For example…cherries have a distinct flavanoid profile in them… Tart cherries naturally pack a health-promoting punch that provides pain relief for many people. Apples
Apples are a good source of bioflavonoid nutrients. A study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology (1997) found that flavonoid rich foods such as apples could reduce a person’s overall cancer risk by 20 percent and lung cancer risk up to 46 percent. Apples and bananas have also proved to be effective healing foods in cases of gout.
Grapes
Research points toward a family of substances called polyphenols which are found in plants and are abundant in grapes. Polyphenols are part of a larger family known as phytochemicals. Research on phytochemicals has focused on flavonoids contained in Concord and other purple grape juice. These flavonoids are naturally occurring compounds that are thought to help prevent heart disease.
Resveratrol, found in grape skins, is a potent antioxidant that provides more effective protection against free radical damage than vitamins C and E. It is also a potent cancer fighter and protector against heart disease. Resveratrol is another of grape’s healthful compounds which are related to procyanidins and found mainly in the skins. It has gained much popularity as an antioxidant supplement.
