Welcome back!

Stress is a normal reaction for people of all ages. It’s caused by your body’s instinct to protect itself from emotional or physical pressure or, in extreme situations, from danger. Stress is your body’s way of responding to any kind of demand. It can be caused by both good and bad experiences
It is when the body gets into a state of “distress” that negative consequences can set in.
Physical and chemical factors that can cause stress include trauma, infections, toxins, illnesses, and injuries of any sort.
Emotional causes of stress and tension are numerous and varied. Physical arousal includes increased activity, heart rate, and blood pressure; faster breathing rate; perspiration; and heightened muscle tension. Cognitive arousal includes restricting focus to the immediate crisis as well as disorganized thinking. Physically it can damage the bodily functioning causing illness, mentally it can confuse and frustrate, and emotionally it can be draining.
It has been said that stress is to the human condition what tension is to the violin string: too little and the music is dull and raspy; too much and the music is shrill or the string snaps.
Distress And Its Effects
Research has shown that when an adult animal is under chronic stress, stress hormones called glucocorticoids can attack nerve cells in the hippocampus area of the brain, causing dendrites to shrivel and cells to shrink. Stress can also halt neurogenesis (growth of new brain cells).
“It has long been known that stress has a direct immuno-suppressive effect” says health writer Byron Richards. He continues– ”New research is demonstrating another angle on this issue – stress can turn on gene switches in bacteria that turns them from harmless to hostile.
Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center, have discovered the specific gene signal on E coli that causes it to activate into a hostile organism. It turns out that this gene signal is turned on by human adrenaline… This information is likely to apply to many more organisms than E coli, as stress is a common theme related to survival….
I have seen Candida albicans flare up from stress in many people – even when they are doing their best to keep sugar and junk food in check. It now appears that our own stress chemicals can activate gene switches that lead to a hostile situation.”
Stress Busters
Exercise improves blood flow, and muscle tone throughout your body, plus, it helps normalize blood sugar and hormone levels. Eat healthy, lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, and avoid excessive levels of sugar, caffeine and junk foods.
Exercises, especially the ones with repetitive motions (like running, swimming, biking and cycling), have been found to be very effective in detoxifying the body of these harmful byproducts of stress response. Exercise moderately at least 5 times a week.
Laughter has been prescribed as another medicine to bust stress—In fact even king Solomon of Bible times recognized this… writing—”A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” Proverbs 17:22
