Women were asked about eight alternative therapies and their use for menopause symptoms. Here were the results: The proportion of women who used each therapy was 76.1% for any therapy, 43.1% for stress management, 37.0% for over-the-counter alternative remedies, 31.6% for chiropractic, 29.5% for massage therapy, 22.9% for dietary soy, 10.4% for acupuncture, 9.4% for naturopath or homeopath, and 4.6% for herbalists.
Actually natural remedies can be very effective in helping to address menopausal symptoms, and the New York Times covered the topic in a recent article. They said an over-the-counter supplement called Estroven , with ingredients that include black cohosh and phytoestrogens — botanical compounds found in soy and other plants has been shown to have estrogen like effects in humans. Natural hormone replacement therapy (NHRT) uses compounds similar to hormones. These are found in soybeans and yams.

Black cohosh has been clinically proven to create an “estrogen-like” effect in the user, often reducing unpleasant menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes and night sweats. Although Black cohosh has not been evaluated by the FDA it is used by many, many women from around the world for feminine issues. It is also found in many herbal formulas.

Black Cohosh is widely used for lessening symptoms of menopause: hot flashes, night sweats, and depression. The herb is also used to reduce related headaches and reduce headaches while slowing down mood swings.
Black cohosh seems particularly effective for uterine cramps and muscle pain caused by nervous tension, as well as pains accompanied by stiffness, soreness, and tight sensations or contractions. Native Americans used it for female and muscular conditions as well as fatigue, sore throat, arthritis, and rattlesnake bites.
Finally menopause symptoms are numerous and different for each woman; of course the more common symptoms are hot flashes, night sweats, irritability, change in blood pressure, and vaginal dryness but by using the right natural approach for the symptoms it will actually make a difference.
Remember menopause is not a disease. It is a natural process in a woman’s life. Menopause does not need to put you in a situation where it alters your life in a negative fashion. It is just one more stage in the wonderful life that the Creator has given.
And remember even when the herbs themselves are safe, using them in the wrong amounts, wrong combinations can cause them to be ineffective or can be problematic; moreover using them with or in conjunction with conventional drugs without ignorantly can be dangerous.
